World-Class Shark Diving · KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

Aliwal Shoal

Two seasons. Infinite sharks.

Aliwal Shoal is one of the world's most celebrated shark dive sites, located off the KwaZulu-Natal coast near Umkomaas — a short transfer from King Shaka International Airport. It is the final dive destination on both the African Shark Adventure and Winter Migration Tour, and delivers a completely different experience depending on the season.

In summer (November to May), African Shark Adventure guests experience Aliwal Shoal's famous baited dives — an adrenaline-charged encounter with a remarkable variety of shark species. In winter (June to October), Winter Migration Tour guests arrive during the ragged-tooth shark breeding season — divers routinely encounter 40 or more raggies on a single dive, combined with the final stages of the humpback whale migration.
